I work as pofessor of economics and public policy and currently as Dean of the Business Faculty at Berlin International University of Applied Sciences in Germany. I teach behavioral economics at Tecnológico de Monterrey and combine my teaching with storytelling.

Towards Public Value (Behavioral) Public Policy

The core of my interest is how policy (outcomes) and settings interact with the legal system, hence my interest for legal-formalism and its effects on citizens, for example, entrepreneurs and government innovators.

State Efficiency / Government Spending

Government spending is a crucial crossroads of macroeconomics and public policy. I study "wasteful spending cultures", especially with regards to Latin America.

Other Projects and Publications

You will find some interesting projects here that still fall into the umbrella of public value. During the time of my PhD, I was very interested in data extraction from social media and digital business in general. I stopped doing research in that area in order to address issues of the common good.

A small note:

While academic writing can be considered to be part of my professorial job, know that I am rather critical of the publish or perish culture, which fortunately has not found its way to all institutions in the world. Take the example of the Applied Sciences. One can follow the principle of publishing only when we have something to say and contribute, not for the sake of filling our environment with noise and meeting yearly article quotas that many of my friends and colleagues have to endure at some institutions. Remember the wonderful idea of "saying something only when it is more beautiful than silence".

The Architecture of Incentives

The AoI is a policy (corporate and public) methodology that aims at reducing implementation costs and collateral damage of decisions that governments or firms make. This is perhaps the most important of my projects, given its long run orientation and a complex set of experimental and workshop related input needed to develop it.
